When Do Employers Hire?
Hiring timelines vary widely by industry. It’s helpful to know when recruiting typically happens so you can plan ahead. This table reflects approximate peak hiring activity for interns and employees in each industry. Use this as a general guide to plan your search and prepare your materials early. Remember that every employer and opportunity follows its own schedule.
Some fields recruit many months or up to a year in advance. Finance, consulting, and accounting recruiters often turn to summer interns to fill most of their full-time openings. Other fields recruit when a position opens up.

Early Recruiting
Accounting
Recruiting for Big 4 internship applications typically opens in late August and closes by late September, with the main recruiting period running from September through March. Local and smaller firms often target juniors and seniors and do not follow these standard timelines. If you have specific firms in mind, be sure to monitor their individual application deadlines closely.

MBAs: November – December (1st years); August – September (2nd years). Sophomores: Start as early as September and may go through April for some companies.
