Resume Check

We want to help you put your best foot forward!

Resume Check is a service designed to equip and prepare students to achieve professional success, an integral part of our mission.

All undergraduate and SPCS students are required to have their resume reviewed through SpiderConnect before applying to the many exciting job, internship, and externship opportunities within the University's online recruiting database.

Please note, after a resume has been reviewed and meets rubric requirements, additional resumes will not go through the "Resume Check" service. If you would like to have a future resume reviewed, please visit Career Services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we requiring this process?

As the job market and graduate school admission processes become increasingly competitive, it is of paramount importance that University of Richmond students position themselves for career success.

All undergraduate and SPCS students are required to have their resume reviewed through SpiderConnect before applying to the many exciting job, internship, and externship opportunities within the University's online recruiting database.

I'm not an undergraduate or SPCS student, so does this apply to me?

MBA students are eligible to apply for opportunities advertised in SpiderConnect without utilizing "Resume Check," although they are encouraged to have Career Services review their resume or participate in a workshop. To find out how, call 804-289-8547.

What are the resources available to help me with my resume?

Career Services offers many resume workshops throughout the semester. To view a full list of upcoming workshops, please visit SpiderConnect. You can also stop-by during drop-in hours, Monday through Friday, 2 - 4 p.m., to talk with a career advisor.

Other helpful resources can be found in our Resource Library

How long does Resume Check take?

Please allow for two business days (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for your resume to be reviewed.

How do I know if my resume meets rubric requirements/needs corrections?

If you have uploaded a resume, when you log in to SpiderConnect and click the “Documents” tab; under “Resumes and Other Documents” you will see a red status bar beside your resume. The bar will either say “REVIEW STATUS: RESUME MEETS RUBRIC REQUIREMENTS” or “REVIEW STATUS: NEEDS CORRECTIONS.”

If your resume meets rubric requirements, you have met all the requirements as designated by the Chronological Resume Rubric and can apply for positions through SpiderConnect.

If your resume needs corrections, you must correct your resume using the comments from the career advisor, delete the previous version, and re-upload the new version for approval.

Why doesn't my resume have the red status bar?

When you upload a resume into the Documents folder, it will automatically go to the “Pending Review by Career Services” tab. The resume will sit in this tab for up to two business days until a career advisor has reviewed it. If you have uploaded a resume and do not see it in the tab, please contact Career Services at 804-289-8547.
